History
The 1969 Jaguar E-Type, also known as the XK-E Series 2, was an evolution of one of the most iconic and beautiful sports cars ever made. Designed by Malcolm Sayer, an aerodynamicist who previously worked in aviation, the E-Type’s sleek, flowing body was inspired by aircraft engineering, giving it a timeless, sculpted shape that remains a benchmark in automotive design. The long hood, low stance, and covered headlamps (which were removed in Series 2 due to U.S. safety regulations) gave the car an unmistakable presence, making it a favorite among enthusiasts and collectors.
One of the most interesting features of the 1969 E-Type was its improved cooling system, addressing overheating issues from earlier models. It introduced dual electric fans and larger radiator openings, making it more reliable for long drives. The interior was also updated with rocker switches replacing the aircraft-style toggles, and improved seats for better comfort.
Famously described by Enzo Ferrari as "the most beautiful car ever made," the Jaguar E-Type was a revolution in both design and performance, offering the beauty of an Italian exotic at a fraction of the price. Even today, the E-Type remains one of the most celebrated sports cars in history, cherished for its grace, speed, and innovation.
